Description:
IAG 600 FA20 Short Block (12.5:1 Compression) - 2013-2021 Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ / Toyota 86 - 600 BHP
A Stronger Foundation for the Boosted FA20 Sports Car
The IAG 600 FA20 Short Block for the BRZ, FR-S, and 86 provides a stronger bottom end for naturally aspirated FA20 platforms being modified with aftermarket turbo kits or performance upgrades. Starting with new Subaru BRZ/FT86 FA20 case halves bored and honed to 86.1mm, IAG replaces the factory rotating assembly with IAG-Spec H-Beam forged connecting rods with ARP2000 bolts and IAG-Spec JE FSR 86.1mm 2618 alloy forged pistons. This variant uses the standard 12.5:1 compression ratio, ideal for low-boost or stock applications.

Forged Rods and Pistons for Boosted Applications
The stock FA20 connecting rods and pistons are designed around naturally aspirated power -- they are not engineered to handle loads created by an aftermarket turbo kit. IAG-Spec H-Beam forged rods with ARP2000 bolts address the rod failure risk directly, and the JE FSR 2618 alloy forged pistons are purpose-built for boosted applications.
12.5:1 Compression: When to Choose It
The 12.5:1 compression ratio is the factory spec for the normally aspirated FA20. This variant is appropriate for low-boost turbo kits where compression is managed by boost levels and tuning, or for owners who want a stronger bottom end for a stock or lightly modified naturally aspirated build. For higher boost levels, consider the 10.5:1 low compression variant.
Modified Oil Passages
IAG inspects and modifies the internal oil passages of each new OEM FA20 case to ensure proper oiling for performance use. The stock FA20's oiling has known limitations in aggressive applications, and IAG's passage modifications address this before assembly.
Why Choose IAG Performance
IAG Performance has been building Subaru-specific engine and drivetrain components since 2001, and in that time they have become the standard by which serious Subaru builds are measured. Based in Westminster, Maryland, IAG designs, machines, and assembles their products in-house using Haas CNC equipment and their own engineering team. Their catalog spans everything from short blocks and long blocks rated to 1150 BHP all the way down to the fuel system, oiling, and drivetrain hardware that keeps modified Subarus running reliably for years. Every IAG product exists because a problem needed a better solution than what was available -- and the engineering shows.
The RallySport Take
The IAG 600 FA20 is the right starting point for any BRZ, FR-S, or GT86 build adding forced induction. The forged internals give you a foundation that can handle the loads the stock bottom end cannot. If you are turbocharging your 86 platform car, start with a bottom end that can take the boost.
