COBB Tuning Stage 1 Drivetrain Package w/ Tall Shifter – 2002-2007 Subaru WRX

Description:

Cobb Tall Shifter Drivetrain Package 2002-2007 Subaru WRX 5MT

The Cobb Tall Shifter Drivetrain Package for the 2002-2007 Subaru WRX 5-speed manual bundles the tall shifter hardware, front and rear bushing kit, and shift stop shift knob not included in this variant. This is the GD-generation WRX 5MT drivetrain package for the platform that defined Subaru's North American performance reputation.

DETAILS

• Stage 1 (no knob) shift knob sold separately
• Platform: 2002-2007 Subaru WRX 5MT and 2004-2007 STI
• Shifter type: Tall Shifter
• Bushing kit: front and rear eliminates lateral slop in GD 5MT
• Shift stop: limits over-travel at end of gate

What's Included and Why It Works

The Stage 1+ Drivetrain Package for the Subaru WRX 5-speed manual transmission addresses the factory shifter's main shortcomings: excessive throw length and bushing slop that together produce a shift action that feels longer and less precise than the transmission's mechanical accuracy warrants. The Cobb shift plate installs at the base of the shifter mechanism and provides a 15% or 35% reduction in throw length at its two adjustment positions, shortening the travel between gear gates without changing the transmission's internal synchronizer geometry. The front and rear bushing kit replaces the factory rubber bushings which degrade and compress over time with tighter-tolerance units that eliminate lateral slop in the shifter's range of motion. The result is a shift action that is both shorter and more direct, with the mechanical feel of the transmission communicating more clearly through the lever.

Shift Feel, Color Combination, and Installation

The package components are identical to other Stage 1+ variants the distinction here is no shift knob is included. Add a Cobb shift knob separately in the color that suits the build.

What's in the Box

• Cobb shift plate (or tall/wide barrel shifter)
• Cobb front and rear bushing kit
• Cobb shift stop
• All installation hardware

Why Choose Cobb Tuning

Cobb Tuning has been developing performance software and hardware for turbocharged enthusiast vehicles since 1999. Founded in Austin, Texas, Cobb built its reputation on the Accessport and expanded into a full catalog of hardware engineered to complement it. Every OTS map is developed in-house on real vehicles, and every hardware product is validated as part of a complete system not sourced and sold in isolation. That integrated approach is why Cobb produces consistent, reliable results across the builds we see every day.

The RallySport Take

The GD WRX 5MT is a fundamentally good transmission that benefits substantially from reduced throw and tighter bushing tolerances. The tall shifter raises the knob position for a longer lever arm, changing the mechanical feel and reducing the effort of each shift.
