COBB Tuning Front Mount Intercooler Core Silver – 2004-2007 Subaru WRX / STI

Description:

Cobb Front Mount Intercooler Core Silver 2004-2007 Subaru WRX / STI

The Cobb Front Mount Intercooler Core for the 2004-2007 Subaru WRX in silver is the standalone intercooler core in silver finish, for builds sourcing the pipe kit separately. The FMIC moves charge air cooling to the front bumper opening where ambient airflow provides dramatically lower and more consistent charge temperatures than the factory TMIC.

DETAILS

• FMIC Core: standalone core only
• Platform: 2004-2007 Subaru WRX
• Core color: silver finish
• Bar-and-plate core construction for efficient charge cooling
• Front mount position: dramatically lower charge temps vs factory TMIC
• Designed for Cobb Accessport Stage 2 OTS maps
• Pipe kit sold separately required for full installation

Front Mount Intercooler on the EJ255 Platform

The Cobb front mount intercooler moves charge air cooling from the factory top mount position where the TMIC sits in the engine bay heat zone to the front bumper opening where ambient airflow provides consistent, efficient cooling. A cooler charge air temperature means denser air: more oxygen per unit volume, which allows the Accessport to target higher boost and more aggressive ignition timing without exceeding safe charge temperatures. The bar-and-plate core construction provides maximum fin surface area per unit volume for efficient cooling within the limited space of the front bumper opening more efficient at a given core size than tube-and-fin designs.

Pipe Kit, Accessport Stage 2 Maps, and Installation

The FMIC pipe kit is engineered specifically for the chassis it is designed for every bend, diameter, and routing length is correct for the installation without modification. The visual presence of the intercooler core through the front bumper opening is intentional: the silver or black finish is visible through the grille and reflects the cooling capacity working behind it. Requires a Cobb Accessport with the appropriate FMIC OTS maps; the Stage 2 calibrations are developed for the FMIC's specific cooling capacity and must be used for correct and safe operation at Stage 2 boost targets.

Why Choose Cobb Tuning

Cobb Tuning has been developing performance software and hardware for turbocharged enthusiast vehicles since 1999. Founded in Austin, Texas, Cobb built its reputation on the Accessport and expanded into a full catalog of hardware engineered to complement it. Every OTS map is developed in-house on real vehicles, and every hardware product is validated as part of a complete system not sourced and sold in isolation. That integrated approach is why Cobb produces consistent, reliable results across the builds we see every day.

The RallySport Take

The Cobb FMIC for the 2004-2007 Subaru WRX is the hardware that enables Stage 2 calibration on this platform. The factory TMIC is the performance ceiling for Stage 1 the FMIC removes that ceiling by providing front-bumper ambient cooling. The silver finish is visible through the front grille opening. Requires Cobb Accessport with Stage 2 OTS maps calibrated for the FMIC configuration.
