Cobb Front Mount Intercooler Core & Bumper Beam – Black – 2022-2026 Subaru WRX

Description:

Cobb Front Mount Intercooler Core Black 2022-2026 Subaru WRX

The Cobb Front Mount Intercooler Core for the 2022-2026 Subaru WRX in black is the standalone intercooler core in black finish for the VB WRX FA24WGT front mount intercooler position. The FMIC moves charge air cooling to the front bumper opening where ambient airflow provides dramatically lower and more consistent charge temperatures than the factory TMIC.

DETAILS

• FMIC Core: standalone intercooler core only
• Platform: 2022-2026 Subaru WRX FA24WGT MT
• FMIC core color: black finish
• Bar-and-plate core construction for maximum cooling efficiency
• Front mount position: ambient airflow provides dramatically lower charge temps vs TMIC
• Designed for Cobb Accessport Stage 2 OTS maps
• Pipe kit sold separately required for installation
• NOTE: Ships via UPS/FedEx signature required at delivery

Front Mount vs Top Mount: Why Position Determines Cooling Capacity

The Cobb front mount intercooler moves charge air cooling from the factory top mount location where the factory TMIC sits directly in the engine bay heat zone to the front bumper opening, where ambient airflow provides consistent, efficient cooling. The fundamental physics here are straightforward: a cooler charge air charge is a denser charge, providing more oxygen per unit volume to the combustion process, and a denser charge allows the ECU to target higher boost and more aggressive ignition timing without exceeding safe operating temperatures. The NexGen FMIC core uses a bar-and-plate construction designed for maximum cooling efficiency in the limited space of the Subaru front bumper opening. The bar-and-plate design provides more fin surface area per unit volume than tube-and-fin construction, making it more efficient at a given core size.

Pipe Kit, Accessport Stage 2 Integration, and NexGen System Compatibility

The Cobb FMIC system includes the complete pipe kit needed to connect the intercooler core to the turbocharger outlet and the intake manifold. The pipe kit is engineered specifically for the chassis every bend, diameter, and length is correct for the installation without modification. The NexGen FMIC is designed to work as part of the Cobb NexGen Stage 2 system, with the Accessport Stage 2 OTS maps calibrated for the FMIC's cooling capacity and the accompanying NexGen SF intake and boost control solenoid. The visual presentation of the intercooler through the front bumper opening is intentional the color choice (silver or black) is visible through the grille and communicates the level of modification present in the build.

Why Choose Cobb Tuning

Cobb Tuning has been developing performance software and hardware for turbocharged enthusiast vehicles since 1999. Founded in Austin, Texas, Cobb built its reputation on the Accessport and expanded into a full catalog of hardware engineered to complement it. Every OTS map is developed in-house on real vehicles, and every hardware product is validated as part of a complete system not sourced and sold in isolation. That integrated approach is why Cobb produces consistent, reliable results across the builds we see every day.

The RallySport Take

The Cobb FMIC for the 2022-2026 WRX is the hardware upgrade that makes Stage 2 calibration possible on the FA24WGT. Stage 1 is limited by the factory TMIC's charge cooling capacity the FMIC removes that limitation and enables the Accessport Stage 2 OTS maps to target boost and timing levels that the TMIC-limited configuration cannot safely reach. The black finish is visible through the front bumper grille opening. This is the hardware that the NexGen Stage 2 system is built around.
