The SQV4 uses a sequential valve mechanism that provides smooth boost response across the full pressure range, protecting the compressor wheel from surge and improving boost recovery speed after gear changes.

Atmospheric and Recirculating Configurations
The sequential valve design progressively vents pressure rather than opening fully at once, providing smoother boost response on re-engagement and reducing abrupt pressure changes. Available in atmospheric configurations (vents to atmosphere, produces characteristic BOV sound) and recirculating return kit versions for applications requiring recirculation. Return kits are available for vehicles where atmospheric venting causes issues with MAF-based fuel metering.
