GrimmSpeed Lightweight Crank Pulley Black – Subaru Models (inc. 2002-2014 WRX / 2004+ STI)

Description:

GrimmSpeed Lightweight Crank Pulley (Black) , 2002-2014 Subaru WRX / 2004-2021 STI

The GrimmSpeed Lightweight Crank Pulley in black for the 2002-2014 Subaru WRX / 2004-2021 STI is an underdrive pulley that reduces rotating mass at the crankshaft , one of the most effective locations for weight reduction on an internal combustion engine. The factory pulley is significantly heavier than necessary, and the GrimmSpeed unit removes parasitic mass that the engine must accelerate every time the throttle is applied.

DETAILS

• Color: Black anodized aluminum
• Reduces rotating mass at crankshaft
• Underdrive design , reduces accessory parasitic load
• Improved throttle response and engine revving
• Engine: EJ series
• Fitment: 2002-2014 Subaru WRX / 2004-2021 STI

Rotating mass near the crankshaft has a larger effect on throttle response than an equivalent mass reduction elsewhere on the car. The factory crank pulley is a cast iron or heavy steel unit , the GrimmSpeed lightweight pulley in aluminum removes a significant portion of this mass. The result is an engine that accelerates through the RPM range more freely and responds more immediately to throttle inputs.

The underdrive design also slightly reduces the load on the alternator and power steering pump , accessories that consume power from the engine to operate. The reduction is modest but contributes to the overall improvement in engine response. Installation requires a crank pulley removal tool (GrimmSpeed sells the correct tool) and standard torquing procedures.

Why Choose GrimmSpeed

GrimmSpeed has been engineering performance parts for Subaru platforms from their Portland, Oregon facility since 2003. Everything they make is designed around real-world use , their engineers drive the same cars their customers drive, which means product decisions are made with genuine platform knowledge behind them. GrimmSpeed designs parts in-house, sources quality materials, and validates fitment on the actual application before release. The result is parts that install correctly the first time, perform as advertised, and hold up under the conditions Subaru owners actually subject their cars to. Whether it is a critical engine component or a cosmetic upgrade, the same attention to detail and fit quality applies across the catalog.

The RallySport Take

The lightweight crank pulley is a modification that changes the feel of the engine in a way that is difficult to communicate through specifications but immediately apparent when driving. Rev response sharpens, the engine feels lighter and more willing to spin. Fits the 2002-2014 Subaru WRX / 2004-2021 STI.
